Scottish Amateur FA - Person Registrations

Welcome to the Scottish Amateur FA Comet Support

Comet as a system is constantly evolving and we do fully appreciate that it’s not always easy for clubs to keep up with these changes. Our job is to ensure that playing football is as easy as possible, and our library of videos, walk through guides and access to raising additional support tickets with both Scottish Amateur FA and Scottish FA will help clubs to overcome any challenges that they may have throughout these processes.

We have broken our support into the most common areas below. Please click on each link for more information.

Person Registrations

One of the key roles of clubs is being able to register players on the Scottish FA Comet System. Players must be registered with clubs in order to be eligible to participate in any regulated football for that club. Players who play without being fully and properly registered with the club would lead to potential action being taken against the club.

Please note the responsibility for ensuring registrations are correct lies with the club, and please see below for an updated process that must be used from 15th of December 2025.

Person Dual Registrations

There are certain circumstances when a player is allowed to hold a Dual Registration. It is important to state that in these circumstances both registrations must be against the same player ID and can only be a dual registration when each club has a different playing day.

Dual Registrations can only be held when both club types are Amateur, one Saturday and one Sunday (Winter).

When the player currently possesses a confirmed Registration, the second registration would be a dual registration. If currently holds a Dual Registration then second registration would be a standard registration.

Registrations are completed in the same manner as the video displayed above but selecting the correct registration type (Registration/Dual Registration).

Players who hold registration with the following club types are not permitted a Dual Registration – Welfare Club, Community Club,  Youth Club, Women Club & Senior Club.

Over 35 Teams Registrations

Over 35’s Teams registrations are done slightly differently, and a standard registration does not register you to play over 35s Football.

If you wish to play Over 35s Football, you will require a “Football for All” Registration.

This process is achieved by following the registration video above but instead of selecting “Registration” on the Registration Type, you would select “Football for All”.

Football for all registrations do not count as dual registrations, and instead are considered a recreational registration. Should you wish to play both regular Amateur football and Over 35s, then you require TWO REGISTRATIONS. One would be the regular registration and the second would be Football for All in order to play over 35s.

Example Registration Forms

Once you have the player details loaded into comet, and you generate or send your registration form, it would always be prudent to check that the form will meet the standards required to be confirmed by the Scottish FA. Failure to do so may result in the player not being registered, or be ineligible for games until proper registration is complete.

Please note the player is not classed as registered until this registration check has been completed by the Scottish FA, and a player returned as “Confirmed” on the Scottish FA Comet system and player has been catalogued to a competition to comply with SAFA Constitution and rules.

Registration Passed

The Grassroots Governance Team at the Scottish FA will check for 3 pieces of information. Name printed, clear signature and date. As these conditions have been met this would pass.

Registration Rejected

Upon checking the information on this form, we can see that both the name and signature are in the same font, and are identical. For this reason, this would be rejected.

Registration Rejected

When we check this form, we can see that we have a name and signature but the date is missing. As registrations require all three parts of this information, this would be rejected.

All tickets are responded to within 24 hours
