Third Lanark express SFL interest
Added On:6/10/2008

Third Lanark have expressed a surpirse interest in applying for the Scottish Football League berth made vacant through the demise of Gretna.

The club went bust in 1967 but were resurrected four years ago and have since played in the amateur leagues within Greater Glasgow Premier League.

On Monday a four-man delegation held talks about their application with SFL chief David Longmuir at Hampden Park.

The representatives from the club say if they are unsuccessful, they will explore entering the junior leagues.

The club still play at their Cathkin Park home on the South side of Glasgow, which is now run by the city council.

However, the ground has fallen into disrepair would require major investment to come up to SFL standards.

The club would also have to find the £100,000 bond money required of all SFL clubs.

Gretna officially resigned from the SFL last week after administrators were unable to find a buyer for the Border club.

Spartans, Cove Rangers, Annan Athletic, Preston Athletic and Gala Fairydean have also intimated they wish to apply to the SFL.

The deadline for applications to arrive at Hampden Park is Thursday 12 June.
