AC MillInn 2 Alford 0

AFTER two cup games in recent weeks, it was back to league business last Saturday for Stonehaven''s ever improving League 1 North side AC MillInn.
Having made the long journey from Alford, the visitors could have been excused for adopting a cautious approach to this second meeting with their hosts, the first ending in a comprehensive drubbing in the season''s opener in Alford.
The game was played in blustery conditions, causing problems for both sides. With 15 minutes gone, Dunn warmed the hands of the Alford goalkeeper with a close-range effort and, less than a minute later, Muir fired over the bar from 20 yards out. The same two cleverly linked up, playing a series of ''one-twos'' with DUNN finishing of a well placed pass from Muir to open the scoring on 25minutes.
The Alford defence were unable to halt the now frequent attacks on their goal, and surely it was only a matter of time before this vibrant Mill team swelled the net again. Despite the numerous chances there was to be only one further goal in the first half. A Sinclair run from deep in his own half supported by the strong running Reid combined to create a half chance for ALLAN whose first touch saw him curl an unstoppable left footed shot past a flailing Alford keeper.
The half time team talk was short and to the point - excellent first half, keep passing the ball, keep the team shape and discipline and more goals would come.
The home side could have been more convincing winners had they taken any of the several chances they created after the break. In an otherwise uneventful second half the home side maintained a clean sheet with one or two fine saves from Lawson. They also created several chances throughout the second half which, to the chagrin of manager Hunt, went a begging.
The final score was 2-0, and whilst flattering for the visitors, more importantly this victory keeps AC MillInn top of Div. 1 North with 25 points from 10 games, extending the unbeaten run in the league to 8 games.
This Saturday ses the MillInn team travelling to Findon for a scottish cup 2nd round replay.
