Templeton Albert was established in 1919 as the Glasgow Welfare League was founded. The main idea was to build a league for Glasgow teams to compete at football following the 1914-1918 war. Templeton Carpets, who were the main employer in the East end of Glasgow, sponsored football teams from all the Templeton carpet factories. Templeton's started off in the Glasgow Welfare League in 1919 and played in the Glasgow Welfare League until 1987.Templeton's were asked to join the newly formed Dumbarton & District Welfare League. In season 1935 / 1936 and in 1936 / 1937 Templeton's won the Scottish Welfare Templeton Cup , their own sponsored trophy, in 1951 / 1952 Templeton won the Daily Record Cup followed in season 1952 / 1953 by winning the Templeton Cup again. The Templeton team was originally run by a gentleman called Charlie Carruthers. Charlie ran the team single handed until a few year ago when the committee was established.
Charlie passed away at the grand age of 82, he was a life member of the Scottish Welfare Committee affiliated to the SFA governing body. |
