Willie Docherty (Doune Castle AFC)

Willie Docherty, Doune Castle AFC, SFA Grassroots Award Winner

Congratulations to Willie Docherty, Doune Castle’s long-serving Club Secretary, on becoming an SFA Grassroots Awards Winner. Willie has been selected as the Central Region Grassroots Football Volunteer of the Year 2015 in the Adult Football category.

Willie received his award during the Stirling Albion V Hearts pre-season friendly on Tuesday 14 July. The presentation party comprised Elliot Jardine (from sponsors Mcdonalds), Head Coaches Stuart McLaren (Stirling Albion) and Robbie Neilson (Hearts) and Hearts Director of Football, Craig Levein.

This award makes it a Caledonian League double-swoop in the SFA Grassroots Awards. Willie follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner, and one of his good friends, Pat Griffin of local rivals Milton AFC. Pat went on to win both the overall national title and, ultimately was named UEFA’s Adult Volunteer of the Year.

Willie now goes forward to the national awards event, along with the 5 other Grassroots Regional Award Winners.

Ian Sommerville said "very much on a personal level, I am delighted Willie Docherty of my own club, Doune Castle, received the Grassroots Award for Adult Football."
