PERTHSHIRE AFA LIFT INAGURAL INTER ASSOCIATION TROPHY
Midlands AFA lost the chance to become the first holders of the new inter association trophy after they were defeated 6-3 by Perthshire AFA.
Perthshire winning the inter association trophy having a better goal difference than the Midlands AFA, the loss to Perthshire also meant that the Reid Trophy headed back to Perth.
In a keenly fought contest Perthshire always had the upper hand, they went
two goals up inside the first 20 minutes. Although Midlands AFA pulled a
goal back through Roeleveld after half an hour they went in at half time 3-1
down to a controversial offside goal five minutes before the break.
Midlands AFA got the perfect start to the second half when Foley fired in from the edge of the box to make it 3-2. Perthshire then made 4-2 five minutes later with a fine strike from twenty yards.
Midlands AFA then gave themselves a lifeline with the goal of the game when Foley cut in from the right beating three defenders to fire in an unstoppable shot high into the top left hand corner to make it 4-3.
Poor defending saw Perthshire score twice more as Midlands AFA tried to press for the equaliser that would have seen them lift the inter association trophy and take the game to a penalty shoot out to determine the winner of the Reid Trophy.
