SAFA PLAYER SQUAD ANNOUNCED

Airdrie FC Select 1 SAFA Select 3

@ New Broomfield on Monday 24th Feb 2014.

The Scottish team made a bright start and McKay threatened a couple of times before he eventually opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Airlie did well out on the right before finding Currie who quickly cut the ball into the path of McKay who made no mistake with a shot high into the roof of the net.

By this time the Airdrie youngsters had not troubled the Scottish defence leaving McGilvery a mere spectator but for all their possession the visitors would have to wait till the closing minutes of the half to extend their lead.. The wait was worth it and once again McKay was on the rampage but his wicked shot was blocked by the keeper but Dickson did well to react to the rebound with a super header that found the net.

Heavy Rain at New Broomfield (24/02/2014)

It was all change after the break as Bruce McNaught cleared the subs bench but the biggest transformation came in the home team’s attitude.

For a while the flow of the game continued in the same vain as the first half but a change in Airdrie could be noted and John Nisbet, just off the bench did well to deflect a powerful shot from the number nine out for a corner kick.

Suitably encouraged the home side now look the part and Nisbet was soon involved in more action. This left the visitors relying on the break for some joy and Sean Lothian and Paul McLaughlan would come close before the home side narrowed their advantage in the 75th minute.

Initially Nisbet did well to clear danger at his near post but as the pressure continued he was left with no chance when the number nine blasted a low drive home from close range.

At this time a draw looked the more than likely but the visitors would have the last word with a super header from Alan Inglis posted courtesy of a quality cross from Broadfoot.

(Post note – a number of players on the original squad missed the game due to injury or work commitments)
