Hamilton FC Select v SAFA Select Squad Match Report
@ New Douglas Park, Hamilton on Tuesday 14th January 2014 (Kick Off 7.15pm)
The Scottish team never got going as an attacking force in the first half against a well disciplined Hamilton defence, their double centre-half formation giving McKay little opportunity to exploit his pace. For their part, the home team did manage to open up the visitors defence but they were met with some stout defending and a measure of luck.
Indeed, Hamilton's best chance came after a great move that involved half the Association team broke down, their quick counter bringing a save from Longmuir.
Into the second half the Scottish team seemed the more settled and a tight off-side decision stopped McKay in this tracks but ever adventurous he would soon back in action with a shot the keeper did well to push to safety.
This was the Scottish teams best spell and approaching the hour mark they developed the best chance. McKay got forward with intent but his attempt came bouncing off the keeper and over the cross-bar to relative safety.
This signalled both managers to empty their bench and while the visitors drip fed, the home team put on seven youngsters at the same time. This changed the complexion of the game and while it produced some notable moments for both side the honours would remain even.
On the night a credible team and individual performance from all involved on the night and leaves Bruce and his management team much to mull over.
