In a very competitive game the Ayrshire team probably looked the most likely but they would pay a heavy price for missing out on two good chances when the Scottish Association struck just before the break.

Getting forward in numbers Kenny Wright made the most of a cheeky flick into his path, then one touch to control the other to hammer the ball high into the net.

This gave the Scottish side a crucial edge and in the 52nd minute they would double their advantage. Following a poor free-kick, John Thompson made amends with a super cross to the back post where Brian Hughes was waiting to head the ball home.

The game would continue at a frantic pace and while other chances were made the Scottish select stayed in charge. However, both managers were left satisfied that their players had made a notable contribution to what was a testing atmosphere with both teams now scheduled to meet a Central Scottish AFC squad over the next month.

Bruce McNaught in a challenge match again at Colville Park while Graeme Mathie has the first leg of the John Smith tournament to look forward to at the home of Clark Drive.
