Jack Britton Rosebowl 2013 Match Report
SAFA Select 1. Northern Irish AFL 0
@ Ainslie Park, Edinburgh 11th May 2013.
The Scots took back possession of the Britton Rosebowl after substitute goal keeper Marc Robson conceded a penalty kick with a strong challenge of Michael Brown. His team mate at Colville Park, David McKay would then send Robinson the wrong way from the spot in what was the only goal of the game.
Weather conditions were less than ideal with a strong wind swirling around the park that made life exceedingly difficulty for the players. So with silky soccer out the window we were rewarded with a tense game played with the usual gusto we expect from both team.
The home side would have the better of the first period but only territorially as it was the Irish who manufactured the beast chance when Michael Moore saw his powerful drive saved by Longmuir though McKay should have done better with an opportunity just before the break but his shot when high over the bar.
Into the second period weather conditions got worse but at least the action was heating up as both teams set about their task but the game was changed just before the hour mark. As the original Irish keeper Jon Munn came out of his area to collect a long ball that seemed destined for Jamie Broadfoot he initially hesitated then kept going with the result he took the Scotland player out of the action. The referee had no doubt as he flashed the Red Card and now the visitors see out the rest of the game with ten men.
The Northern League played on with expected determination even after the 82nd minute penalty award but the Scotland held out for a deserved victory.
